twine for Zoom is a new app that allows you to create more engaging breakout rooms – right in Zoom.

twine for Zoom features four matchmaking modes that allow you to quickly add different forms of speed networking, interaction, and connection to your Zoom meeting.

twine for Zoom is now available for any Zoom user to install and we've prepared a quick guide of the different matchmaking modes and common use cases for each one. Check it out and start supercharging your Zoom Breakout rooms.

Shuffle: Let Us Do the Work!

Tutorial: How to Create & Run a Shuffle Meeting

Zoom breakout rooms is a great way to break up a larger group of attendees into smaller groups (or pairs) to allow for more interactive conversations. Our Shuffle mode takes all the work out of creating and moving people into and between breakout rooms.‍

• Speed Networking: Match your attendees in back-to-back rounds of 1-on-1 or small group speed networking. Give them a time limit to discuss a particular topic (or just meet each other!) and twine will look after automatically moving them on to the next round when the time for each round is up. One click and you're all set - you don’t have to do anything else!
• All Hands Weekend Update: Before your next all-hands, use our shuffle mode to quickly send your team off into small groups of 2-3 to give a weekend update, or discuss an ice-breaker question you provide.  This breaks up the monotony of the typical Zoom call and gets participants warmed up for conversation. Use our shuffle mode to recreate those casual conversations that took place before or after the meeting that really made work feel human

Map Mode: Let Your Attendees Decide!

Our popular map mode allows you to create a visual representation of your Zoom breakout rooms. Each breakout room is represented as a table and can be labelled, allowing guests to move freely between tables based on their interests, departments, or teams.

• Birds of A Feather: Similar to having table topics at an in-person event, you can use map mode to gather attendees with similar interests in specific rooms. Have people convene to talk about atopic they’re interested in, form groups based on a shared trait, or join a facilitator to discuss a specific concept.
• Trivia & Team Games: Have attendees move to a table to join a team to answer trivia questions, problem solve or work on a project together before reporting back in the main room. You can also use the universal twine for Zoom chat to have teams submit answers from their rooms.
• Virtual Happy Hour: Using our map mode, which can recreate the feeling of being in a room of cocktail tables, you can give attendees the freedom to “wander” around the Zoom rooms and jump into conversations when they discover people they want to chat with. Re-create the excitement of walking around a networking reception and bumping into old friends and meeting new ones.‍
• Career Fair: Map mode can also be used to setup vendor tables, exhibits, and sponsor booths to give attendees the opportunity to visit a tradeshow booth or station. This is great for tradeshows, hosted buyer programs, or career fairs.

‍A+B Matching: Control Your Matches!

When you’re looking for more control over who in your meeting meets with whom, A+B matching puts the power into the hands of the host. Select two variables (i.e East Cos + West Coast, Executive + Staff) across your audience and pair them off for intentional, curated discussion.

• ‍Speed Mentorship Networking: Divide your attendees up into mentor or mentee groups and match them with each other for speed networking rounds where they can meet and assess compatibility. Ensure mentors only meet with mentees and allow them to connect with their preferred mentor or mentee after your event so you can create meaningful mentorship pairings in your organization.‍
• Engineering Serendipity (aka the new Watercooler): Group attendees by geographic regions, departments, or titles and ensure they only meet with teammates they don’t normally work with. Match your North American teams with your EMEA teams, match Eastern and Western sales teams, or match Engineering with Sales. This is a great way to recreate the serendipity of running into someone in the office breakroom!

Tag-Based Matching: Match On Multiple Variables

Tag based matching is our most powerful matching mode and takes A+B matching to a new level! Attendees are given the option to self-identify which variables (tags) they belong to and with whom they want to meet with. Attendees can be matched on multiple variables and tag-based matching puts the outcome of the matching into the hands of your guests.

• New Employee Onboarding: During your onboarding process, you can ensure your new hires are building their social networks within the company by allowing them to select who they’d like to match with. Ensure your marketing new hires (tags: Marketing, New hire) get matched with senior sales leaders (tags: Executive, Sales). Use tag-based matching to be intentional about your onboarding to ensure the right people meet with each other.
